Boojum is not a franchise, or owned by some faceless corporation. Boojum is owned and operated by husband and wife team, John and Karen.

John, a Philadelphia native, met Karen in America while she was on a summer visa. Being a Mexican food fanatic, John quickly introduced Karen to the burrito.

When the summer ended, Karen had to return to Ireland. Once home, she realised that she missed John and more importantly burritos and made the decision to move back to Philadelphia.

Karen became addicted to burritos as much as John, so it only made sense that they marry. It’s still debatable whether Karen moved to America for John or for the love of a good burrito.

Upon returning to Ireland they were unable to find decent Mexican food or a burrito bar anywhere, so they decided they would open one of their own. After a lot of hard work and determination, the first Boojum was opened in December of 2007.
